Zoo Camp

Hi, readers! This week I’m at zoo camp at the Smithsonian FONZ National Zoo. My class is called Super Mammals, and I’m having an excellent time! In the class, we choose an animal/mammal that is at the zoo so we could write a story based on it.  The animal/mammal would have super hero powers, and the story could either be realistic, fantastical, or a little bit of both! For my story, I chose an anteater! I chose it because I think that anteaters are adorable! My anteater’s power is Super Smell. It’s actually true though that anteater’s have a good sense of smell. Anyway, my story is about the anteater trying to save a baby turtle in the Sahara desert. But as he looks he realizes that he just can’t find the baby turtle. So, the anteater uses his super smelling ability to try to track it down. But again, it just couldn’t find the baby turtle! The anteater got lost in the desert. Just then, a huge storm formed and caused the ‘great anteater’ to be even more lost! It sat down on a rock. The rock started moving and he realized that he was siting on the baby turtle! He rescued it and took it to it’s natural habitat: the National Zoo! Well, that’s my story! Write a comment to tell me if you like it!

My Mom works at the zoo so I’m good friends with the people in her office. In fact, my Mom’s good friend named Kathryn is very kind and sweet. She has a child named Annika who is some years younger than me, but she is adorable and I enjoy playing with her! I hoped to see her today at zoo camp. But, unfortunately, my Mom told me that Kathryn called her and said that Annika had a fever! I felt so bad for that cute little girl. So, I’m going to give her some presents that I hope she’ll like. She’s also getting the presents because Kathryn and my Mom said that if she is very quiet, she’ll get a prize(s)!

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER ANNIKA! AND READERS, I’LL SEE YOU SOON!

A Day with the Cousins!

Hi, everybody! Today I had a wonderful day with my cousins from Israel. I have mentioned them before in my previous article that I wrote. Let me tell you how all of this happened right from the beginning. So, if you live in Maryland you probably know about a huge storm that recently occurred. It was almost a tornado! Since then, people’s homes have lost power. In fact, my house lost power. We had no air conditioning and were very hot! Luckily, that was only for a day. But, some camps that are held at school closed down for the days. My camp got canceled since Monday because of the storm. It was a disastrous storm, even though it was only about ten minutes. Since there wasn’t camp for the past few days, I’ve been very bored. This morning, my mom asked my dad to look at the camp website to check to see if the camp was closed again. He said that on the website it said it was open from nine o’clock to three o’clock as usual. So, we got up and almost drove all the way to the camp. We almost arrived at the camp, until I heard a sudden gasp from my mom. She was talking on the phone with her good friend. I was wondering why my mom sounded so surprised. When she hung up the phone, she said that her friend said that the camp was closed. To check, we went up closer to the camp to see. And believe it or not, there was a sign that said closed. At first, we thought my dad was crazy and read the wrong sentence on the website. My mom was freaking out because she didn’t know what to do. She said she had a meeting at work in an hour. At first she thought of taking Jamie (my older sister), Sofie (my younger sister), and me to work with her. She called her boss Fran and said that she couldn’t bring all three of us. My mom thought it’d be unprofessional. Then, my mom told Fran that she’d have to miss the meeting because my dad’s mom that I call Nana offered us to see a movie with our cousins Liat and Daniele. My mom had to drive all the way from Holton-Arms to Olney. My mom realized that my dad read the right sentence right before they changed it to say that it was closed! Can you believe it? My Nana and my Grandpa had to work so a good babysitter named Carrie babysat Liat, Daniele, Jamie, Sofie, and me. I don’t know how she handled it! Her mom helped out though. We were going to see the new movie that’s based on the books. It’s called Ramona and Beezus. But, before we did that, we played air hockey, Wii, and Jamie and Liat did make-overs. When we saw the movie, we all thought it was a pretty good movie. When my mom picked my sisters and me up at Nana and Grandpa’s house, she announced that we were taking Daniele and Liat home with us. My mom drove us all to our house and we were excited to see Nana and Grandpa who were waiting for us in my house. We all hung out together and played. We couldn’t decide where to go out to dinner. We decided to eat at a restaurant called Redrock Canyon at the Rio. The food was delicious. I got a potato soup with chopped bacon, green onions, and cheese. It was a small soup so I ate chicken tenders to go with it. Liat asked if we could have a sleepover, but my mom said no because we might have camp tomorrow. Or at least we hope.

We all had a fun time together. I love hanging out with my family.

A Nice Dinner

Hey, readers! Tonight, I had a nice dinner with my first cousins – Daniele and Liat, my dad’s parents, my parents, my sister Sofie, and my sister Jamie! Jamie just came home from sleep away camp in Maine, as well as Daniele and Liat who went with her to Camp Med-O-Lark!  Jamie said she went water skiing, knee boarding, swimming, and more. But anyways, this article isn’t about Camp Med-O-Lark. It’s about a nice dinner that I had with my family. I was ecstatic that I got to see my cousins because they live in Israel and I barely get to see them! We talked about Camp Med-O-Lark, the food (we went out to Outback Steakhouse!), and more. Liat and I created a handshake. It’s cute. Also, I ate a noodle dish with mushrooms, tomatoes, and garlic.

Well, thats all I got for you readers today! See you soon!

Creative Summer Camp

Hi, readers! Sorry I haven’t written an article in awhile…and by awhile, I mean months! Anyways, I just thought I could talk to you about what camp I’m recently going to. This camp is called Creative Summer camp and it is held at a private girls school called Holton-Arms. Before you start camp, you have to pick five activities for five periods. After the first day, you decide whether or not you like all of your classes. If you don’t, you’d say to the counselor that you’re switching out of that class. Then, you’d join a big line of campers during that period and switch into a class that you think you’d like more. There are two sessions and I went to both of them. In session one, this was my schedule:

1st period: Cake decorating     What you do in cake decorating: You decorate cakes and cupcakes.

2nd period: Newspaper        What you do in newspaper: You do word searches, interview campers and counselors, and you also do what I like best – write.

3rd period: Jewelry Workshop   What you do in jewelry workshop: Make different kinds of jewelry

4th period: Young gourmet     What you do in young gourmet: Cook delicious recipes

5th period: Hip Hop     What you doin hip hop: Dance

Session one was fun, but session two is also fun. My schedule for session two is:

1st period: Total Body Conditioning    What you do in total body conditioning: Work out and stretch

2nd period: Pop N’ Lock     What you do in Pop N’ Lock: Dance and lock! :)

3rd period: Baking     What you do in baking: Bake

4th period: Jewelry Workshop (I like this class so much, I even took it for session two!)

5th period: The Write Idea       What you do in The Write Idea: You write stories, learn about descriptions, write poems, and more

After your third period you go to the dining room to eat lunch. Once you finish your lunch, you go to the lunchtime entertainment. If you don’t want to go, you can go to the gym. You have to be going into fifth grade and up because I guess the counselors think it can be dangerous for the little kids to play with older kids in the gym. The shows can be camper talent shows, the creative summer slide show, and more. After lunchtime entertainment, you go to your fourth period. If you don’t know how to get to your class, there are always counselors and CITs among the hallways to show you where your class is. Creative summer also provides LOTS of water, so you won’t get dehydrated. Creative summer surely is a fun camp!

YOU SHOULD GO TO CREATIVE SUMMER IF YOU WANT A FUN CAMP TO GO TO! READ MY NEXT ARTICLE HERE AT WWW.GABYVINICK.COM! SEE YOU LATER!

A Day with Nana!!!

Today, I had a really fun time with my grandma who I call Nana, my sister Jamie, and my other sister Sofie. My parents had to go to a Bat Mitzvah so Nana had to take care of Jamie, Sofie, and me. The first thing we did was make breakfast. She gave us all hot chocolate and toast (Nana already ate breakfast). Then, we watched the Olympics that I recorded last night so we got to watch it again today. We decided that we’d go to the mall and then eat lunch so after watching the Olympics, so we went to Lakeforest Mall. Nana bought some new shoes, we got some samples of perfume (Nana really wanted to look for Queen Latifah perfume so that’s why we took some samples),  and then we left to eat lunch at Noodles’ N Company. Jamie got a small Pad Tai dish with a tomato soup and I got the same thing except instead of Pad Tai, I got chicken. Nana got noodles and Sofie got mac and cheese (she ended up not liking it though).   After lunch, we went to Target because Jamie and I got some Target gift cards that we wanted to spend on. Jamie bought makeup and I got a little, too. After that, we went back to the house and watched more of the Olympics and my Mom came home early because she had to drop off Sofie at her friend’s birthday party.  When they left, Nana had to go so we said thank-you and goodbye and she left.

Don’t you think Nana is awesome? I love her as a grandma.

THANK-YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING, NANA! BYE, EVERYONE!

Happy Late Valentine’s Day!

Happy Late Valentine’s Day! Sorry I couldn’t do this article before, I couldn’t write it because I was at Wisp Ski Resort (I talked about that before). Anyways, how was your Valentine’s Day? Did you see a Valentine’s Day-related movie? Did you give anyone a special valentine? Did anyone give you a special valentine?

At school, we had a Valentine’s Day party! It was kind of short, though because of the snow. However, I still got a lot of candy and my class and I got to eat cookie cake! It was REALLY good!

A Fun Trip!!!

Hi, everyone! I haven’t made and article in awhile … so I’m sorry for that. I mainly couldn’t write an article because I went to Wisp Ski Resort and I had a blast! We went with family friends and their names are Sarah (she’s one year younger than me), Emily (who’s one year older than my younger sister – Sofie), Brian (he’s mainly friends with my Dad), and Jenny (who’s mainly friends with my Mom). Anyways, we went with them and it was AWESOME! We went skiing so much and my Mom got to learn how to ski for the first time!!!! Also, we went snow tubing, we went on a roller coaster, and we went swimming!

We stayed at an apartment and I slept on the top part of the bunk bed with Sarah on the other top of the other bunk bed, and Sofie and Emily were on the bottom. We stayed at the apartment for three nights!

I HAD A BLAST GOING TO WISP SKI RESORT! HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THERE?
