No School!

I was happy and sad that there was no school today. All Montgomery County schools were closed.

First of all, I was happy because I got to sleep late. For some strange reason it’s just hard for me to wake up early in the morning so it was nice sleeping until 9:30! Also, I was happy because this way I could spend more time working on my cool science project and more. Lastly, I could see my friends. For example, today I had a play date with my friend – Julia. We played on the Wii (an electronic game),  we watched a little bit of television, and we chatted. Also, I saw my friend - Rachel today, too. I saw her because we carpull together for our dance class.

I’m not just happy that there is no school, I’m also a little upset because I wanted to see my awesome teacher who I’ve mentioned before – Mrs. Alderoty. She’s nice, hilarious, fun, smart, and she has a great sense of humor!

In conclusion, I was obviously both happy and sad that there was no school today. Did your work/school get closed? Are you happy and sad that it was closed if it was closed? Why?

Jump Rope for Heart

My school, DuFief Elementary School, is helping to raise money for an association that will help people in a hospital who are having problems with their hearts. Soon in February, DuFief Elementary school and some other schools (I think) will be  jumping our way to earn some money for the heart association.

I think this whole organization should be in honor of my P.E. teacher’s husband. Unfortunately, he died last year (2009) from a terrible heart attack at late night. Mrs. Screen, my P.E. teacher, was so upset when he died. That’s why “Jump Rope for Heart” is really special for her and everyone! If you donate money online, you can win a prize! You can win a T-shirt, ipod, and more!

PLEASE HELP DUFIEF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HELP PEOPLE IN NEED OF HELP.

A Long Sleepover

Yesterday, I had a sleepover with one of my best friends – Caroline at her house at 5:00. Caroline and I have known each other since we were babies and our Moms have known each other since they were in Elementary school. Anyways, we watched T.V. first and then we ate dinner. We ate “Papa John’s” pizza. I think the pizza that “Papa John’s” make is excellent! After dinner, we went downstairs to the basement and played a few fun “Wii” games called “Mario Kart”. After the games, we went to Caroline’s bedroom and played on our “DS”. Then, we went to sleep.

The next morning (which is today), we slept until about 9:00! After we finally got out of bed, we went downstairs to the kitchen and ate breakfast – bread with nutella and soy chocolate milk. It was really good! Then, we watched a little bit of a movie called Grease. After watching about half of the movie (Caroline and I didn’t feel like watching anymore of the movie), we went back downstairs like we did the night before and we played “Mario Kart” again on the “Wii”. Also, Caroline and I jumped on her trampoline and we played a little basketball on her basketball hoop. Then, Aunt Sheryl (Caroline’s Mom who I call Aunt Sheryl) told us that we had to go back to Caroline’s bedroom to change into our clothes (Caroline and I were still in our pajamas) because Aunt Sheryl had to take Caroline and Caroline’s older sister – Julia to an orthodontist appointment. I had brought a blue sparkly shirt with long black pants and a colorful scarf that had peace signs on it to wear. Guess what? Caroline had almost the same outfit! She wore the same sparkly shirt (that was purple not blue, though) with long black pants and a colorful scarf that had peace signs on it. We were like twins! It was really funny! Aunt Sheryl took a picture of us together. After that, we went in the car to go to the orthodontist appointment. It took about five minutes and then we drove to a restaurant that you probably have heard of called “Panera”. I got a ceaser salad with extra cheese and Caroline got two bagels with cream cheese and bread. After lunch, we went outside and saw one of my hebrew school teachers! Her name is Mrs. Wohl!  We were both so surprised to see each other! Then I had another surprise!I ran into my grandma – Nimi and my sister – Jamie! It was hilarious! My grandma said that she and Jamie wanted to go to “Panera’” for lunch, too. My grandma also asked me if I wanted to go with Jamie and her or stay with Caroline. I decided to stay with Caroline. After all, I had already ate lunch. Anyways, I hugged my grandma and went back in  Caroline’s car to go to her house. At her house, Caroline and I played some more “Mario Kart”. After playing for awhile, I had to go. Aunt Sheryl dropped me off at my house and I said goodbye and thank you to Aunt Sheryl and Caroline. By then, it was 3:30! I really did have “A Long Sleepover”!

The Thunder Game

Today, I had an indoor soccer game and saw a lot of my friends. My Dad’s one of the coaches. We have three coaches! Coach Shah, Coach Bruce, and my dad – Steve.

We ran on and off the soccer field.  My position was the midfielder. A midfielder plays defense and offense.

We scored 6 times! By then, the other team was losing. They only had 2 points. Our team won! Hooray!

Goodbye, Tai Shan

My Mom and I are really sad about what’s going to happen to one of the National Zoo’s most popular animal – a panda bear. My Mom works at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. and she told me that a panda bear named Tai Shan has to leave the zoo to go back to China. We are both going to miss him, and a lot of other people are, too. Tai Shan was such an adorable little panda cub that grew to be a kind, strong guy. The government of China made a deal with the National Zoo that if the zoo can keep Tai Shan for a long time, he’ll eventually have to come back to the wild in China forever. The zoo is probably going to lose a lot of business because of this problem.

Since Tai Shan is going to leave, my Mom and a lot of other workers at the National Zoo are going to throw a “Tai Shan Farewell” party. The party is Saturday, January 30, 2010. It starts at 11:00 A.M. and ends at 3:00 P.M. There will be talks from the panda keepers, arts and crafts, kids can make a goodbye card for Tai Shan, and the zoo will give out free panda toys and crayons. Also, a store that you might have heard of that’s called “Whole Foods” will give out treats that are related to pandas. It will be the last chance to see Tai Shan before he leaves. Everyone can come and it’ll be really fun!

The zoo has learned a lot from Tai Shan such as how pandas react to things and behave. Now China will be able to learn about that, too.

IF YOU’RE FREE, YOU COULD COME TO THIS HONORABLE EVENT FOR TAI SHAN. READ MY NEXT ARTICLE SOON!

A Wonderful Present

I’m so happy because my Aunt Lauren, who gave me this cool blog, recently gave me a business card! The business card has my picture, my name, the website, and it’s awesome! When I got the gift yesterday, I called Aunt Lauren and screamed of joy! She was happy for me, too. I can’t believe I have my own business card just like almost every other adult! I’ve already passed out a few of the cards to my sisters and my Mom and Dad, but I also want to hand them out to my teachers and friends at school! It will be so much fun!

THANK YOU SO MUCH AUNT LAUREN! THIS IS THE BEST PRESENT EVER! CAN’T WAIT TO WRITE MY NEXT ARTICLE!

Thinking About Haiti

Ever since that tragic earthquake in Haiti, I can’t help but think about the people who lived there.  I wish there was some way that scientists and experts could see if there was an earthquake coming, but they can’t. If they could, I’d be the happiest human in the world! Also, if people knew an earthquake was coming, they could travel to somewhere else where it’s safe. That way, they wouldn’t have a big chance of dying or getting injured.

Anyways, you should really be thankful for everything you have. You shouldn’t be thankful for only things that you don’t need such as your new cool sneakers, your big awesome laptop, or your pretty new haircut. Those are very silly things to be thankful for. The main things to be thankful for are shelter, education, health care, money, food and water, and what I think is most important – your family.  Haiti lost all of that just because of that mean, huge earthquake which is why I keep thinking about all of the people who were in Haiti when the earthquake happened. I feel awful about it and I think everybody in this world should at least give a penny to that somewhat destroyed country. The entire world is a team, no matter what religion we’re from, skin color we have, or the clothes we wear. We should all work hard together as a team and go through the tough times, and the good times. We need to help each other out through them.

From now on, whenever you take one little sip of water, don’t think of it as a simple little thing that everyone has, because that is not true. Haiti needs water, they barely have any of it (My hebrew school teacher – Mrs. L talked about that today. She also talked about things you should be thankful for, and things you shouldn’t worry about), and it’s hard to survive with barely any water. Also, every tiny bite of food you take, think of Haiti who needs that so badly. When you go to your doctor, think of Haiti that probably can’t even afford health care.  When you go to school or work, think of Haiti. Their schools and work offices got destroyed which means they lost their jobs, too. Most importantly, when you hug a relative, think of Haiti. Some of their relatives died. Everyday, I think about Haiti.  Before the huge earthquake, I never even knew Haiti existed. Now that they had the horrible tragedy, I realized that I was a little ignorant. I should’ve been paying much more attention to Haiti and the people who lived there. They deserve a good home, education, health care, food and water, and of course – a loving family. We can make a difference and try to make that happen.

My Fun Playdate

After school, my friend Jill came over for a “Fun Playdate”. It really was fun!

First, we got settled into the house and then we split a little Hershey bar for a snack. Afterwards, we asked my Mom if she could help Jill and I make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! It’s sort of a tradition for Jill and I. We both love the cookies so much that we always make HUGE ones. They were delicious! When we finished eating, we went upstairs in my bedroom to play a long game of “Apples to Apples”. Jill beat me by two points, but we still enjoyed the game. It didn’t really matter to us about who won or who lost.

The game of “Apples to Apples” was over, Debbie, Jill’s Mom, picked Jill up to take her to a basketball game. I was a little upset she had to leave. The playdate seemed to go by so fast!

Juniors

Yesterday, I had a “Junior”‘s meeting at my school in one of the fifth grade classrooms – Mrs. Schwartzbeck’s classroom. I was with all of my friends – Jill, Julia, Rachel, Mythili, Anjali, Michelle, Alyssa, Eleni, Rebecca, Hanna , Ilana, and Karlina. We weren’t official Junior Girl Scouts, yet. We had to pin on our special Junior badge.  After the ceremony when we got our badges, we ate a lot of food! We had yummy smores, tasty pretzels, good goldfish, and for the drinks – lemonade and water. It was a lot of fun and we said goodbye to our Junior leaders – Sharon (Rachel’s Mom) and Carla (Alyssa’s Mom) after we ate the food and the ceremony was over. Of course, I was going to see the Junior girls again. Juniors won’t be over for a LONG time!

Thank you so much, Sharon and Carla. We wouldn’t have been a great Girl Scout troop if it weren’t for you.
